Welcome to the very first post on the YarnSpun Collective blog. It’s a little quiet in here right now—like moving into a new house before the furniture arrives—but we have big plans for this space.

If you’re reading this, you might be wondering who we are, why we’re here, and perhaps most importantly, why we named a creative agency after crochet terminology.

Let’s unravel that last part first.

Why "YarnSpun"?

While we do have a soft spot for crochet, the name actually comes from an old idiom we’ve always loved: "Spinning a yarn."

It means to tell a story—usually a long, engaging, perhaps slightly embellished one that captivates the listener.

We believe that storytelling isn't just a marketing buzzword; it’s the core of human identity. It’s how we bond, how we share our feelings, how we preserve our traditions, and how we position our unique identities in a very loud world.

Scientists say it’s what separates us from all other living beings. (Well, that and opposable thumbs. We’re big fans of thumbs, too. 👍)

In the business world, "spinning a yarn" means taking the threads of your brand—your mission, your people, your products—and weaving them into a narrative that your audience actually cares about.

Hitting the Road (Literally)

We didn’t want to launch this blog until we had some real-world yarns to spin.

Lately, our team has been on the road across North Carolina, cameras in tow, partnering with Goshen Medical Center. We’ve been helping them highlight their vital community services by focusing on the incredible staff that powers their mission.

It’s involved early mornings, many miles, and countless interviews that have genuinely moved us. It’s exactly the kind of work we built YarnSpun to do: finding the human heartbeat inside an organization and making sure the world hears it.
